Water in Colorado - Challenges, Changes and Innovation Opportunities | Martin/Martin | Thursday, 23. August 2018

SAME Denver Metro Post General Membership Meeting: August 2018
Topic:  Water in Colorado - challenges, changes, and innovation oppportunities
Speaker: Matthew B. Schlageter, PE, LEED AP of Martin/Martin
Water rights in Colorado have been an increasingly popular topic of conversation both for public and private sectors.  The ownership and distribution of water has long been managed by the State, maintaining unique restrictions associated with the reuse of water of any form.  Recent projects and legislation, however, have elevated discussions associated with innovation and opportunities to leverage reclaimed water, and in this discussion we will explore, from a high level, some of these changes and opportunities.  We will explore the most recent legislation and rulemaking hearings associated with the ability to incorporate reclaimed water for use in toilet flushing, and present information about a highly innovative project that plans to incorporate an onsite treatment plant promoting use of internally created reclaimed water for both internal uses and landscape irrigation.  We will explore impacts associated with campus and facility resiliency considerations common in military applications and brainstorm to where this momentum may lead.
